Things Needed for a Baby: Tips for Stocking Their First Wardrobe

Parents-to-be are busy but excited as they prepare for the birth of a new child. And among the most enjoyable aspects? Filling up your baby's first wardrobe with all the things a baby needs to be well dressed!

If you want suggestions for gifts for expectant mothers in your life or advice on what clothing essentials to stock up on for your child, look no further! Here are some essential clothing items that every parent should have on their shopping list or registry that should definitely help ensure you have the things needed for a baby's first few months, at least when it comes to their clothes.

A Great Baby's First Outfit Choice

There will obviously be a lot of excitement in the air when it comes time for parents to take their baby home from the hospital, and as there will no doubt be a LOT of pictures taken it's only natural to want to choose a special outfit for baby to mark the occasion. However, keep things simple but stylish, lots of frills and ruffles are not comfortable for babies.

Stock Up on Baby Bodysuits

Bodysuits are a near perfect choice when it comes to infant clothing, so when it comes to things needed for a baby wardrobe, adding lots of them should be high on your list.

Bodysuits are great because they are comfortable for babies and easy for parents to put on their (often squirmy) child. They make nappy changing time easier too, a plus for first time new parents who are just mastering this essential childcare skill!

Baby bodysuits are simple, but they don't have to be boring. They are available in lots of colours and patterns, and you can opt for a few with cartoons and sayings for special occasions too.

Pull on Leggings

Another reason a baby bodysuit is a great choice of everyday baby clothing is that it is easy to layer over, and pull on leggings are a great way to add a layer of warmth of protection to baby's legs that's still comfortable for them and easy to deal with at changing time for you.

Again, when it comes to things needed for baby in terms of outfits pull on leggings are also available in a huge range of colours and styles and as they are very much a gender neutral item of clothing should some survive those first months in good condition they will make great hand me downs for a future new brother or sister (or cousin).

Baby Hats, Socks and Mittens

When a child is so young, it is especially crucial to keep their head, feet, and hands warm, which is why having enough baby accessories like hats, socks, and mittens can help a lot. Additionally, infants can experience mild bouts of baby eczema, which causes them to unintentionally scratch their face and body with their small yet sharp fingernails, so they may need to wear them indoors as well as when they're taken outdoors.

Aim for at least three to four hats, roughly four pairs of booties or socks, and at least two pairs of mittens in the beginning. However, keep in mind that items like these are often very easily lost and misplaced, so it's not a terrible idea to get more.
